the original concept for this song came when I was experimenting in Austin with my home rigged overdub studio. I played "Rat Race" by the Righteous Brothers Band and dubbed over it with guitar. The song was utter noise and discord, but there was a terribly brilliant clash of notes when I played the ominous guitar opening over the introductory horns. That play of cacophony has withstood years of contemplation, so I dusted off the idea, sampled ONLY the opening measure of the Righteous Brother's song, and truly came up with a new gem from very old roots.
The lead vocals are very much Mark E. Smith inspired, with a hint of Lou Reed (Oh! Jim!) at the end.
The original song, which I never released, was called "wrecking ball" but since that is now a Miley Cyrus song, I just kept the lyric "wrecking ball" and referred to "celebrity fallen" as an homage to one of the creepiest Disney Child stars, in terms of a well known conspiracy theory involving child prostitution.
