the Darkness Dove

from Cut Glass by Coz the Shroom

/

about

the original has different lyrics and was sung a capella-- from my "lost album" , "My Naked Lunch with Andre."
Now a heart-felt lament about watching your last hope fall to the wayside, destroyed by a creaky old political machine from the 90's

lyrics

the darkness dove is out of reach
the smoke of battle and costly peace
with outstretched talons I beseeech
an olive branch to join the breech

the darkness dove makes no reply
It seems a vulture as earth dies
It seems a rheumy sickly eye
an ocean bed that's dead and dry

It gains us nothing to implore
He is not recognized no more
it caught my heart and made it tore
I'm sick and weary of its war

return what you promised

the darkness dove upturns dead trees
pulls up old railway tracks like weeds
his heart outworn with gutted grief
to never find sweet death's release

the darkness dove digs deeper graves
and knows what path man's hatred paves
his song no more a call that saves
the noble-men turned pack of knaves

our gates too fortified to breech
our jagged shells pepper the beach
a beach too old and driftwood bleached
no lessons now too late to teach

no more come a winging

all hail the night
the cold of winter's might

gather the wind and darkness
gather the rain and ice
gather the dregs and dross-blow
assembled in the night
